Laurie’s Library

This website has been created mainly for my family and a few close friends. It is not intended for wide distribution, as I have no great wish for hate mail regarding the things I have written. That said, I intend no hurt towards any person or group in these pages. My hope and intent is for the love of Christ to shine through what I've written.

My essays on Christian History might for instance be interesting if you need to answer questions from one of your kids studying the time of the Pharoahs in Egypt who asks why there's no mention of the Israelites in most Egyptology studies. Or if you wish to review the differences in views between "new earth" and "old earth" creationists, you will of course find my opinions on my Creation page. Finally, if you just want to do a quick check to see what I've posted since you last looked, click on Contents and you will see a chronological listing of everything, including blogs, with the latest entries at the top. So just click on those top entries to go directly to the new content. Note that videos, music, and books reviewed are not separated in this listing - the last thing I reviewed will be at the top of the list.

Finally, as you may be aware I have long-ago terminated my Facebook page and don't use social media at all...unless you call email and messages to be "social media." I consider applications like Facebook and its ilk to be amongst the greatest "successes" of Satan during this century. That said, I realise that many people depend on social media apps for their work and income, and at present there aren't any great alternatives. Anyway, as a result of having left Facebook, I'm pondering adding another page summarizing my current "doings," perhaps including a few photos and videos. And I may also do a bit of an upgrade on the site, making it look less like a typical 1990's site - which pretty accurately describes its current look and feel. No promises about that, though.

Most of the articles pertain to theology and reflect my somewhat unorthodox Christian worldview, so I expect that many of my non-Christian friends will find little to interest them here - and some of my Christian friends will consider me to be a heretic. The majority of content is authored by me. Names of other contributors will be indicated where appropriate. Except for REVIEWS and my blog page, the most recent articles are at the bottom of each page, since in many cases they will be read top-to-bottom in order. Many of my blogs are political in nature, and reflect my left-wing economic and right-wing social leanings.

The articles here simply reflect my opinions. Since they are in no way intended for publication, no formal bibliographies are included. However some references will be provided when relevant or helpful.

As my background is in physical science and not theology, my opinions regarding theological matters might be considered uninformed and suspect. But I agree with the late theologian Dr. Francis Schaeffer that one should approach biblical interpretation with an open mind and without preconceptions. The great scientist, mathematician and closet theologian Sir Isaac Newton was a great example of one who excelled at this. So in that light, perhaps my lack of formal theological training could be seen as an advantage.

From personal experience I firmly believe that an assurance of salvation is promised and available to Christian believers. But in general I am skeptical of those who claim absolute certainty regarding a great number of doctrinal matters. While I will give reasons for the views I take, I definitely don't presume to be correct in my opinions. Uncertainty varies by topic, and will be indicated where appropriate.

My most recent addition is to provide commentary on US President Donald Trump's threats to take over Canada and make us into the 51st state.

So as I said, you can click on Contents for a complete listing of website content (blog entries are now included), click on the appropriate button for theological topics or general book and film reviews, or click on my mugshot (above) to go directly to my blogs page. Again I do apologize for the 1990's appearance of my web site. It was near the beginning of the "internet age" when I learned web programming, and that early knowledge pretty much reflects my current abilities. However I much prefer a site that is my own, rather than a Facebook page which purports to be my mine but which contains many items that are completely contrary to my values.
